We’re excited to announce that Petrus has been awarded the Greater Manchester Combined Authority fund to deliver green care in Rochdale!
The project funded as part of the government’s ‘Test and Learn’ Green Social Prescribing Programme, will provide much needed support and help to everyone in our borough, and will focus on supporting people affected by COVID-19, including homeless and BAME communities.
As one of the project leads, we’ll be delivering support and activities through our community garden PIER, alongside fellow leads KYP, Link4Life, Action Together, Rochdale Health Alliance’s Social Prescribing team and Public Health.
The benefits of the natural environment on our health and wellbeing have long been known and can help prevent conditions from developing or getting worse. For example, there are great physical and mental benefits of walking and gardening, and the impact and importance of access to these activities has been highlighted even more so throughout the pandemic.
Green social prescribing provides opportunities and referral pathways for members of the community to gain access to good quality non-medical, nature-based health and wellbeing support and activity linked with GP practices.
As a collective, we aim to kickstart our green social prescribing model and share our learning with others, bringing a collective of VCSE (voluntary, community and social enterprise sector) and health partners together with a shared goal of seeing high quality nature-based health and wellbeing activity available to all, close by to their home and linked with the GP practices.
By developing green care partnerships at a boroughwide and Greater Manchester level, it will enable us to support the health and wellbeing of our communities through green activity in alignment with Petrus’ vision ‘to create safe spaces where all people can flourish.’
We believe that by working together through the project we can support those in our neighbourhoods by creating a more cohesive, resilient, and healthier community.
