PIER at RHS Tatton Park Flower Show

Petrus had a garden at the 2019's Royal Horticulture Society (RHS) Flower Show Tatton Park

Volunteers at Tatton Park

The garden, called Petrus' Paradise, had been designed by a team of staff, volunteers and services users from PIER who wanted the garden to reflect a service user's journey through life with Petrus.

The garden was sponsored by Guinness PartnershipM&Y Maintenance and ConstructionRochdale Rotary Club and Rochdale Borough Council.

The garden was a huge success as Petrus was awarded the Silver Medal and also won the People's Choice Award!

It was a fantastic opportunity for Petrus’ service users and volunteers to show what they have done and achieved.

Service users chose Persian paradise as the theme and wanted it to include key features, such as water, mosaics, symmetry, geometrics and a sheltered area, all of which mean something to them. It offers a sense of safety, respite, sanctuary, peace and relaxation.

Petrus’ Paradise represented the hard work and dedication of Petrus’ service users, who all have multiple and complex needs and have experienced homelessness at some point in their life. Service users had drawn on their past experiences in the hope that the garden would challenge negative stereotypes associated with homelessness.
