New Workshop for PIER

Thanks to the team at Willmott Dixon, our PEIR Community Allotment now has a fantastic new sheltered workshop!

We are so thankful for the support of Willmott Dixon’s Upperbanks Team who provided materials and their expertise to build our new workshop alongside Touch Wood. The workshop is a valuable space which enables us to plan a wide variety of activities including social prescribing - without worrying about the weather!

On Friday 24th March we held an opening for the work shed, where our volunteers officially declared it open! We welcomed our friends from Willmott Dixon and Touch Wood to attend so they could also enjoy a brew with us in the new space they’d help create. The morning was a great success, and we are so excited about the opportunities that this new space will bring to our volunteers, existing groups and new visitors to PIER!

Roy Down, Engagement and Development Officer at Petrus PIER remarks on the support from Willmott Dixon:

“Willmott Dixon first came down to see us at PIER over a year ago. They saw the allotment, met our volunteers and service users and really took a shine to the place. It’s clear that they like what we do, they like the people here, but I guess it really sells itself.

“Over the past year, Willmott Dixon has donated several times, giving sunflower seeds for our efforts to show support for Ukraine and donating steel-toe capped boots for people working on the allotment.

“When I mentioned to them about creating a shelter, I didn’t think we would get anything close to the work shed here today! It is a lifesaver for us as it means we can facilitate service users in all weathers. We’ve been able to offer more services, too. As we speak there are people doing woodwork, making a bench.

“The work shed ticks boxes for everyone. It is made from recycled pallets, so it meets objectives on sustainability and social value – and obviously creates an amazing new space for our volunteers and service users.”

We’d like to say a huge thank you to Willmott Dixon, on behalf of us all Petrus and everyone who uses our services.
