J Parker’s are going the distance for Petrus!

Members of the J Parker’s team will be walking 13.5 miles to raise funds for Petrus’ community allotment, PIER.

On Friday 14th June, a team of walkers from J Parker’s will lead a 13.5 mile sponsored walk from our community allotment PIER, to their Head Office in Old Trafford. The route will take approximately 6.5 hours to complete, with walkers looking forward to a celebratory BBQ at the finish line, organised by the J Parker’s team.

Our partnership with J Parker’s started in 2023 at the RHS Tatton Flower show when they kindly provided us with some much-needed show-ready plants for our entry, The Empowerment Garden.

Since then, our relationship has grown from strength to strength. J Parker’s have donated a generator, over £750 worth of plants and bulbs, seeds and plants and even a garden archway and fencing from their entry to the RHS Urban Show.

They’ll be joined on the route by service users, volunteers and staff from Petrus and The Regenda Group. Participants are hoping to raise £2,000 towards PIER, and the Green Social Prescribing activities and projects run from there.

Being part of fundraising events like this is really empowering and affirming for our service users. To know that they have the support of the local community as they continue to overcome the challenges they have faced through their experience of homelessness, creates a powerful sense of belonging.

What is Green Social Prescribing?

Social Prescribing connects people to activities, groups, and services in their community to meet the practical, social and emotional needs that affect their health and wellbeing.

At Petrus, Social Prescribing includes:

  • Gardening and horticulture
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Walking groups
  • Cooking and sharing meals together.

How can you support the walk?

The easiest way to support us is to visit our Enthuse page, but you can support our walkers in person on the day, by dropping your spare change into their collection buckets, or by card with our new sum up card readers!

You can find us along the route at our rest stops:

  • The Hopwood Arms – approx. 12pm
  • S Wellens and Sons - approx 12:45pm
  • Middleton Arena – approx. 1pm
  • Tesco (Blackley) – approx. 2pm
  • McDonalds (Harpurhey) – approx. 3pm
  • The Angel Pub – approx. 4pm

Once the walk is completed, the fantastic team from Globe Taxi’s will see all the walkers back to the start point so they can head home to rest

Thank you to these businesses for offering their support!
