From kickstart to apprenticeship in just six months

Ryan Fletcher joined Petrus in December 2021 on a Grounds Maintenance Kickstart Placement. He proved himself invaluable and naturally skilled, working alongside volunteers and service users on general maintenance and upkeep at the community allotment.

Following the completion of his kickstart placement, Ryan was offered a horticultural apprenticeship – and accepted!

Ryan said: “ I love working at the allotment and doing what I love most. I am looking forward to starting my apprenticeship and learning new things - being able to carry on working here is brilliant”.

Ryan will undertake a two-year level two apprenticeship through Myerscough College, which will be funded by Rochdale Council’s apprenticeship levy and through Petrus’ apprenticeship budget.

Liz Varey, Service Lead at Petrus, said: “Ryan has been an asset to our ever-growing team and he has flourished in this unique environment. We’re thrilled that Petrus can offer the opportunity for Ryan to complete his horticulture apprenticeship at our community allotment and continue to work with him to achieve his potential and ambition.”

Sarah Pollard, Work and Health Officer, Economic Affairs, Rochdale Council, said: “I can’t believe how much Ryan has grown since starting his placement with Petrus. His confidence is clear to see, and I am so pleased he was able to participate in this opportunity.”

Very best of luck to Ryan in his new role!
