5 Fundraising ideas to help ‘Stop the Snowball’ this winter

Winter can be a tough time for people facing homelessness, rising costs, cold nights, and mounting pressures can quickly snowball into crisis. But your fundraiser could be the moment that stops it.

Here are five easy and impactful ways to raise money this winter, whether you're flying solo or rallying your workplace, school, or community.

1. Festive Bake Sale

From gingerbread to mince pies, a seasonal bake sale is a delicious way to raise funds. Set up at work, school, or in your community and invite people to donate for a sweet treat that warms hearts and bellies.

2. Give a Gift That Matters

Organise a collection of food, warm essentials, and Christmas gifts for our service users. From toiletries and socks to toys and treats, your donations help bring comfort and dignity to people who might otherwise go without. You can also send food and gifts directly to our Hub.

3. Cosy Clothes Day

Swap your usual outfit for something festive, Christmas jumpers, fuzzy socks, or winter woollies, and ask for donations to join in. It’s a fun, low-effort way to raise awareness and funds while staying snug.

4. Mindful Moments

Amid the holiday rush, host a quiet moment of reflection. A candlelit meditation, gratitude circle, or wellbeing session can bring people together and raise funds in a peaceful, meaningful way.

5. Winter Walk for Warmth

Gather your friends, colleagues, or community for a sponsored winter walk. Whether it’s a frosty morning stroll or a lantern-lit evening loop, every step helps us support people before crisis hits.

Whatever you choose, we’re here to help! We can provide t-shirts, collection buckets, old school sponsor forms or support setting up online giving.

Just email us at fundraising.petrus@petrus.org.uk and let us know what you’re planning.

This winter, your support can stop the snowball before it hits home.
