Petrus becomes part of the Regenda Group

One of the North West's leading housing businesses has taken on as a partner a respected charity for the homeless.

The Petrus Community, which has been providing supported housing and services to homeless people since 1972, has now become part of the Regenda Group of companies.

The partnership gives greater strength and stability to Petrus, which provides residential and day support services for people in housing need in Rochdale, Rossendale and Oldham.

The deal also makes strategic sense for Regenda, which manages around 13,000 properties across the region, including social rented housing, housing for older people, supported housing, private rented property, shared ownership and housing for sale.

Regenda is keen to build partnerships with other socially responsible organisations.

"We are proud the Petrus Community is joining the Regenda Group. We both share the belief that people should have access to safe, secure, quality housing and be supported to develop their skills, independence and choice,” said Andy Carberry, Regenda’s director of housing and health. “It’s exciting because the partnership offers stability and confidence for the future. It opens up new opportunities by allowing us to tap into each other’s specialisms and strengths."

Petrus manages a range of supported housing options and day services, working to get homeless people off the street as quickly as possible and to prevent homelessness via a range of interventions. The charity also runs the Petrus Community Store, which recycles donated furniture, white goods and other household equipment to generate funds, offers job experience to unemployed people, volunteering opportunities and benefits the low income neighbourhood in which it is set. "Petrus has more than four decades of experience and a respected track record of working with homeless people. Support from Regenda will provide better opportunities to continue and develop our valuable work at a time of rising demand for our services," said Lynda Robinson, Chair of the Petrus Community.
