Rochdale Catenians have raised 1,500 and donated it to help support the work of the local homelessness charity the Petrus Community. Peter Galvin, President of the Rochdale Catenians said 'I am delighted that the members of Rochdale Catenians adopted Petrus during my year as President and were able to raise these funds by holding a number of events including a very successful and highly enjoyable French wine tasting evening, held at the Sacred Heart Parish Centre. It was a great effort by all concerned.'

Rochdale Catenians presented the funds to Denis Skelton, Co-ordinator of the Petrus Community at a recent dinner held in Rochdale.

Denis Skelton thanked the Rochdale Catenians for their valued support and said that Petrus works with homeless people and those in housing need not only across the Borough of Rochdale but had also developed projects in Oldham and Rossendale. The problem of homelessness was sadly on the increase at a time of austerity and less funding was available from central and local government to tackle housing and homelessness related issues.

Harry Wormleigh of Rochdale Catenians is organising another wine tasting evening this year in aid of the Petrus Community which will have an Italian theme. The event will be held on the evening of Friday, 25th September at the Sacred Heart Parish Centre. Tickets are 10.00 can be purchased by contacting John Welsh, Sacred Heart Parish on 01706 345991 or Petrus Community on 01706 345844.
